Outfit of the Day: Mirror Diaries // Part 3

Happy middle of the week everyone! I'm kind of loving just quickly snapping my outfits...in a mirror still. I'm trying to learn what I like and don't really like in terms of style and clothes. I started to really clean out clothes in my closet recently but I still think I've missed some things that need to go. I haven't been able to do a full "pull everything out of your closet and put it on" so I've been trying to make sure to grab and wear pieces that I haven't in awhile.

Halloween D.I.Y: Batman Costume

I love creating Halloween costumes. Whether they were my own, my husband's or my kids...it's hard for me to just go buy a costume. And even if it is partially store bought, ya gotta add a little DIY detail. I didn't want to be too late in doing this costume post since I'm already seeing so much about Halloween and it's not event October 1st!

Last year my son wanted to be Batman! Here is how we created his blue Batman costume. (The great things is...he still dresses up with all of the pieces of the costume besides the pants and shirt that he outgrew.)

Blue Batman Mask and Batarang
Grey Sweat Pants
Grey Long Sleeve Tee
Royal Blue Adult Tee
Blue Briefs Underwear
We had a pair with a cartoon on the back, so we just put them on inside out.
Blue Super Hero Cuff
We found ours at Michael's but these here awesome!
Yellow Felt
Black Felt
Royal Blue Felt

STEP ONE: CREATE CAPE

You will want to purchase and adult t-shirt for a child's cape in order for the cape to be long enough. I can't remember what size shirt I got for my three year old, just make sure it will be long enough to at least hit somewhere around their knee.
Lay the shirt out flat. Star by cutting the sleeves off at the seams. Now cut up the seam on both sides of the shirt up to the collar of the shirt. DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE COLLAR.
Then cut around the collar on the FRONT of the shirt. You should now have your basic cape.
Now shape up the top of the cape by cutting it inward slightly and cutting out large scallops on the bottom.

STEP TWO: CREATE BELT

Cut a large square out of the yellow felt. Then cut a slightly smaller square out of the black felt. Glue the black square on top of the yellow square.
For the actual belt I had to cut four long strips of felt to create a belt long enough to tie around the waist. My mother-in-law sewed the four strips together. I'm sure you could also glue the strips with fabric glue but the stitching made it a bit more durable.
Cut two thin strips of black felt the height of the belt. Glue the square and two strips onto your belt.
(As you can see, we lost one of the black strips before this picture was taken.)

STEP THREE: CREATE SHIRT

Print out a Batman logo like this one so you have a template for your logo for the shirt. First cut out around the oval so you can trace and cut out the shape on the yellow felt. Then, cut around the Batman on your template so that you can trace it on your black felt. Once you cut out the Batman you can glue it onto your yellow oval, Now, glue your symbol onto the front of your shirt.

STEP FOUR: CREATE PANTS

OK, I was pretty sloppy with this part. I can't lie. I literally took the square piece of felt, wrapped it around his leg until it laid how I wanted it and then I safety pinned it together. I needed to at least take more time in pinning it to the pants because they fell down a few times. But just make sure to get the felt pinned nicely to the pants and you should be fine.

NOW PUT IT ALL TOGETHER...

So, now I actually have to start on this year's costumes. It looks like it will be Rafael the Ninja Turtle and Tinkerbell.

Are you making any costumes this year? Or even just semi-homemade?
Do your kids have any crazy costume that they want to be?

Happy Wednesday guys! I've only worked one day since last Thursday and I'm already itching for the weekend. lol I took the munchkins to Seaworld yesterday and we had a blast. We have an annual pass and we've been trying to make sure we get in enough visits before they expire. We discovered a few new attractions yesterday which was fun...and we got to get up close with a sloth, an owl and a opossum!
Anyway, it's round two of my mirror outfit selfies.

How to NOT End Up With 10 Red Nail Polishes Ever Again!

Are you ever out at Target, Ulta, T.J. Maxx and the like and browse on over to the nail polishes?
You spot some really pretty colors or a really great deal.
And then you go through one of these scenarios:

"Do I have a red color like this one? This is a darker red than I own, right? No, maybe I already have a color like this? I don't remember!"
(Puts nail polish back and leaves store. Comes home and definitely needed that color!)

"Do I have this shade of pink already? I know I have at least 5 different shades of pink colors but I don't have this one, right? I don't remember! But, It's so pretty!"
(Purchases nail polish, comes home and you have an almost identical color!)

This was me quite a bit. Either purchasing an almost duplicate to something I owned or not buying a great color I could have used. And then recently I came up with a simple solution to the problem.
Take pictures of all of my nail polishes and store it in an album on my phone.
I know, I've seen this done with clothes and outfits but who knew it could solve my nail polish problem too!

Group your nail polishes by color (makes it easier to see what you have in that shade family) and take a photo of them.

Once you have your pictures done, create a separate album on your phone called 'nail polish.'
Under 'Albums', click on the plus sign (+), name your new album, click the pictures you took of your nail polishes and then click 'done.'
Bam! All set up for easy reference when you are out shopping.

You could do this for anything you tend to buy duplicates of. Maybe you do this with eye shadow, jewelry or certain craft supplies.

Do you make albums of anything on your phone? Do you have anything you think you'll use this technique with to avoid buying multiples of the same thing?

Want of the Month: Peep-Toe Booties

Hi, yes...this blog didn't die just yet after six months. Took a short break to focus on other things, refresh the blog and work on new post ideas. Hope you all have been well!!

I am totally crushing on peep toe booties right now! The Florida heat wanders well into many other state's fall/winter and these are such a great transition piece to feel like fall but not have to get sweaty in a full on boot. Who am I kidding, I'll be breaking out the tall boots soon, too.

I did a little digging for peep toe booties, no open back, 3 inch and under heel with a price point under $100. That was a hard search guys! I looked around my favorite store sites but just couldn't find anything.  I'm hoping to bite the bullet and order one of these soon or get lucky and run across something out in the stores.

1. Carlos Santana via Amazon // $70

2. J. Renee via 6pm.com // $70

3. Nine West via Amazon // $65

4. Nanette Lepore via Bluefly //  $83

5. Bandolino via 6pm.com // $40

6. Clarks via Amazon // $98

Are you loving any of these? Do you have your eye on another pair that's not shown? If so, post the link so we can check it out!
